Police release image of suspect in sexual assault on Nanaimo bus

Nanaimo RCMP have released an image of a man in connection with a sexual assault on a city transit bus last month.

The incident occurred on July 11 between 5:10 and 5:30 p.m. on the No. 40 bus, also known as the VIU Express.

RCMP said the young victim was in a window seat near the front of the crowded bus. An unknown male sat beside the victim, “rubbed against them with his arm, and slid his hand down their hip and leg.”

The victim picked up their bag to exit the bus downtown. The unknown male left the bus at the 5th Street and Shepherd bus stop.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, late 20s to mid 30s, with brown hair, brown beard, black glasses, blue eyes, black shorts, black flip flops and a button-up white and orange patterned shirt

The police are asking anyone who witnessed the assault or has information about the person in the photo to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
