The Saskatchewan Roughriders received the top grades in the CFL Players' Association's first-ever team report cards.

HAMILTON — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats hired Brent Monson as their defensive co-ordinator Tuesday. Monson, a Hamilton native, joins the Ticats after 15 seasons with the Calgary Stampeders, the last six as their defensive co-ordinator.

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Rise have added a Canadian forward to their roster, signing Jessica De Filippo. The 23-year-old from St. Lazare, Que.

CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Brayden Pachal to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value of US$1,187,500, the NHL club announced Tuesday. Pachal has a goal and an assist in 31 games for the Flames this season.

Midfielder Duncan McDonald has been named sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Soccer’s 2024 Para Player of the Year. The 24-year-old from Powell River, sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½, played every minute at the 2024 IFCPF World Cup in Spain, where sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ finished 12th.

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Canadian offensive lineman Noah Zerr to a one-year contract extension Tuesday. The six-foot-six, 325-pound Zerr, from Langenburg, Sask.

MONTREAL — The Montreal Roses have signed hometown forward Latifah Abdu to a contract. The Northern Super League team announced the deal Tuesday.

LONDON — Canadian Jim (Gentleman) Long lost his first-round game at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship on Tuesday, beaten 3-0 by England's James (Hillbilly) Hurrell.

OTTAWA — Defensive lineman Deionte Knight was among four Canadian players signed by the Ottawa Redblacks on Tuesday. The six-foot-three, 278-pound Knight split last season between Toronto and Hamilton.

Easton Cowan had to bide his time. Taken in the second round of the Ontario Hockey League's 2021 priority selection draft by the London Knights, he was initially bumped down two levels at age 16 for more seasoning. Cowan took the demotion in stride.
