When I was growing up in Regina Saskatchewan, I used to go to Hebrew school two or three days a week after public school, as well as on Sundays.

I was recently gifted with a mint condition copy of 鈥淐anadian Lutheran Ladies, Family Favourites Cookbook鈥�, an artifact of the ancient church dating back to 1984.

To my daughter, You are the definition of innocence, the physical manifestation of a pure heart. Your newborn smell is a testament to the sweetness that you have brought into the world. You do not know it, but the world around you is anything but.

But what can I do to make things better?鈥� This is a question as white people we often demand people of colour answer for us, wringing our hands, not knowing how to respond to revelations of ongoing systemic racism and violence.

I remember, a few decades ago, the worldwide anger and outrage over 鈥渟a国际传媒鈥檚 National Shame鈥� 鈥� the annual seal hunt off Newfoundland. How little we knew. If only clubbing a baby seal were as bad as it got.

Life has gradually taught me the benefits and the joy of delaying my gratification. Why put off enjoying the immediate rewards for my efforts? Allow me to explain. Delayed gratification didn't come naturally to me.
