A brush fire south of Nanaimo is now listed as “being held” by the sa国际传媒 Wildfire Service and is not expected to grow beyond its current size of 2.3 hectares.
The fire was discovered Friday when it covered just over half a hectare.
It was considered out of control until Saturday morning.
About 20 firefighting personnel were assigned to fight the fire as of Saturday.
The two other wildfires currently burning on Vancouver Island — one near Port Alberni and the Old Man Lake Fire north of Sooke. Both are considered under control.
As of Saturday, there are just over 400 active wildfires across the province, a number that has been steadily rising in the past two days due to new fires on the sa国际传媒 mainland; 243 are fires listed as being held or under control.
A provincial situation report from the sa国际传媒 Wildfire Service said crews are bracing for new starts and intensifying fire behaviour on existing blazes due to a “significant” chance of lightning in the southern Interior.
