Part of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail near Sooke was closed on Wednesday after high winds toppled a tree across a trestle.

The fallen tree closed the trail from the Sooke River Road parking lot to the south end of the Charters Creek Trestle.

The public can still access the trail via Sooke Potholes Regional Park, and access to the Todd Creek Trestle remains open, the Capital Regional District said.

Anyone wanting to travel north on the trail is advised to access it from parking lot 2 or 3 at Sooke Potholes.

Sooke River Road is a detour option but has no dedicated bike path, the CRD said.

The rainstorm also led to flooding that caused the closure of Cowichan Bay Road in both directions on Wednesday morning.

The washout continued into the afternoon between Tzouhalem Road and the Trans-sa国际传媒 Highway near Duncan, with a detour in effect on Bench Road.

reported almost 4,000 customers were without power on the south Island Wednesday morning, most of them in Sooke, where at least one pocket of outages is attributed to a tree across power lines.

The number of outages had fallen to about 130 on the south Island as of late Wednesday afternoon.

A wind warning for Greater Victoria was discontinued by the afternoon.
