The Oak Bay Recreation Centre Pool will be closed for two months during the summer for facility upgrades.
The district said the closing from July 1 to Sept. 2 is for an upgrade for the pool dehumidifier and air handling system and routine maintenance and repairs.
“Although much of the work of this shutdown will not be visually noticeable once completed, the upgrades to the air handling systems are absolutely necessary to support a healthy environment for your exercise and water play needs,” it said in a statement.
The centre’s sauna and steam rooms will also see upgrades.
All pool services including swimming lessons, public swims and Aquafit sessions will be unavailable until Sept. 3.
The recreation centre weight room will remain open throughout the summer.
The district said those with active memberships at Oak Bay Recreation Centre can swim elsewhere.
Seven other regional recreation centre pools ranging from Sooke’s SEAPARC to Sidney’s Panorama Recreation Centre will honour Oak Bay Recreation memberships during the closure.
Aside from pandemic-related lockdown closures, the pool was most recently closed for repairs in 2016 after a leak was discovered in a main water line.
