Those who overstay their parking in Victoria this holiday season could get an invitation to donate to a food bank instead of a ticket.

City of Victoria parking staff are once again placing courtesy tickets on vehicles that have been overparked for fewer than 30 minutes, and inviting recipients to donate to a food bank or charity in lieu of a parking fine.

Courtesy tickets will continue until Dec. 24.

Drivers whose parking has expired for longer than 30 minutes will still get a ticket.

The City of Victoria says it’s been issuing courtesy tickets at this time of year for more than 35 years.

Up to 3,500 of the tickets are given out annually.
