Re: 鈥淩emove tree for bikes, crosswalk? Group wants it saved,鈥 Jan. 24. While I deplore the destruction of so many trees in our downtown, I am particularly upset about the proposed removal of the Humboldt tree.

Other navy ships could get longer lives

Re: 鈥淪ubmarines get life extensions from Navy,鈥 Jan. 23. The life extension of our four submarines into the 2030s is encouraging. They will thus not rust out like the four Iroquois-class destroyers and the three replenishment ships.

Greater Victoria street is a unique one

I just wanted to let the heads of engineering for our multiple fiefdoms know that during my inter-municipal travels one day last week, I ran across a street that was unencumbered by any kind of construction or repair crew.

Re: 鈥淔orget the speed limit: Slow down in residential areas,鈥 column, Jan. 20. It is very frustrating that pedestrians again and again refuse to take responsibility for their safety. Pedestrians should wear reflective material at night.

Election outcome would not change

Steve Price would like a new election called in Sidney because Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith, who won by an overwhelming majority, overspent by less than $2,000.
