Writers supporting the proportional-representation system point to examples where they say PR has worked well 鈥渇or years.鈥� Those views tend to be narrow and short-sighted, failing to take in the overall picture.

Re: 鈥淢orneau defends measures to boost struggling media,鈥� Nov. 23. The accusations by the Conservatives are unfair and unfounded. I have a vivid recollection of a rally last election where Justin Trudeau was speaking to supporters.

Re: 鈥淔ederal fiscal update panned by frustrated oilpatch, Alberta,鈥� Nov. 23. The finance minister nationalized the pipeline for three times its original value.

Tenants in shopping malls need to become part of the solution for affordable housing in the greater Victoria area.

Re: 鈥淒river鈥檚 licences useful for many reasons,鈥� column, Nov. 16. While there might be good argument to revoking the driving rights of the elderly and infirm, a few statistics from ICBC give a more relevant perspective.

Re: 鈥淐aregivers struggle to fulfil their duties,鈥� Nov. 16. I want to join the 61 per cent of caregivers in the survey who 鈥渁dmitted they took on the role because they believed they had no choice.

To date, I have been asked for donations to the Dandelion Society, the Open Door, the Mustard Seed, Our Place, Cool Aid, Salvation Army, Transition House, hospitals, the Cancer Society and, of course, the food bank and sa国际传媒 Christmas Fund.

Re: 鈥淭ribute to the power of one,鈥� editorial, Nov. 20. Courageous as Viola Desmond鈥檚 actions were, they pale beside those of Nellie McClung. A suffragette, McClung helped to win women the vote in Manitoba.
