Four more years of聽overspending

Another four years of Lisa Helps as mayor of Victoria is another four years of over-spending, no consultation with those affected by decisions, rewriting history and the list goes on.

Re: 鈥淪pecies conservation should not include extinction for others,鈥 comment, Oct. 19. I agree that letting some species become extinct so that others may live is a model of sacrificial destruction, not of conservation.

Next time, rent more voting machines

I went to vote in Victoria along with almost 30,000 others. It took me just under an hour and a half at Margaret Jenkins School to finally place my ballot into the one, yes one, not two, not three, not four computer vote-counters.

Add more polling stations for votes

My husband and I went to the advance polling station at Saanich Commonwealth Place on Monday, Oct. 15. Not only was the parking lot full of cars circling to find a spot, but the lineup inside to vote was enormous.

Once again, local elections highlight the need for voting reform. The mayors in both Victoria and Saanich were elected to office despite the majority of voters voting against them.

Vote-scanners caused long delays in Victoria

The great upset in the City of Victoria鈥檚 election was the hour-and-a-half lineup to vote 鈥 a fiasco that lasted until 9:15 p.m. The cause? It was the slow line to use the single ballot-scanner at the exit.
